A Selection of Tributes to Michael
Footprints
Tributes > Footprints
While Michael was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, he had many “homes” that stretched from Jack Lake in the Kawarthas, Ontario to Washington, DC, to New York, NY and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. In each place, he lived life to the fullest, cultivated many friends, explored, enjoyed and savored every opportunity.
These special places were just the beginning of Michael’s long life quest for fulfillment, knowledge and travel. Michael kept a log of every place he travelled, and a long list of places “to be visited” – grass never grew under his feet. He always had a plan. He always had a destination.
Michael has left a “footprint” in Toronto, Washington, New York and Hilton Head – a memorial boulder, a bench, trees and commemorative bricks – places where you can, in your travels, visit and remember him. Please explore any of the following:

Mount Pleasant Cemetery
Memorial Boulder and Resting Place
375 Mt Pleasant Road
In December 2018, Michael and his boulder were relocated to a quieter and calmer section of Mount Pleasant Cemetery. It was a difficult decision. Noise disturbances resulting from the installation of Visitation Centre and parking lot as well as the expansion and move of a major pedestrian and bike trail entrance, some years ago, eroded the natural beauty and serenity of our original site selection (Garden of Remembrance, Section 22, Lot 7698 ).
You can now visit Michael on the Yonge to Mt. Pleasant Road (West) side of cemetery, Plot 7, Lot 161. Click here for a map.

Manhattan Waterfront Greenway, Riverside Park South, Upper West Side
Michael's love of cycling, jogging and the Upper West Side were the inspiration to honor his memory with a bench on the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway in Riverside Park South, NY. Situated between W 68th Street Pathway and W 72nd Street entrance, Michael's bench is four benches south of the gate to the Kayak Launch, on the western most side of the Park, closest to the Hudson River, overlooking New Jersey.
